How do you fight addiction to an SSRI?Paxil?
Question:
Answers:
Pail is a hard one to come off. You will get the shakes, dizzy, sweat etc.. That is OK. It will pass. Paxil makes you 'numb' to feelings and some people may like that. If you are one of them, that is OK, but if you are not, then go thru the withdrawl and start to feel life again. You and your dr will now if you are ready. Cut back 1/2 pill every fews days to 1 week.
Other Answers:
you're not addicted.. you just shouldn't suddenly stop taking them b/c it alters the brain chemistry to quickly. you're probably on them for a reason but you're not addicted to them
Oh boy, do I know that one! For years I couldn't get off.if I tried I'd have symptoms of ringing in the ears, dizziness, feeling like I was having a nervous breakdown. Then I'd take my Paxil, and guess what.I was just fine. But I was determined and asked my doctor to put me on another one. But first I had to be weaned off the Paxil..that was done and I was on the other one. Actually, I didn't want to be on anything.so I just weaned myself off that one. Which did not lead the disabling symptoms that Paxil withdrawal produced. I am now anti-depressant medication free! You can do it! One does not become addicted to an SSRI. This type of drug helps regulate certain chemicals (serotonin) that the body does not do on it's own. This is sort of like saying how would one fight addiction to insulin if you are a diabetic. The medicine is helping the body do what it should do, but, for some reason it isn't doing it properly. Some people need to take medication for life. There is nothing wrong with this. It is a concept we need to correct in our thinking. Utilizing medical science to produce a higher quality of life is a wonderful advantage of living in this day and age. Keeping oneself healthy makes for healthier relationships, too, because we feel better. It is a responsibility to stay on medication if that is what keeps one healthy!
to me addiction and withdrawls from an anti depressant have always made me wonder. i mean if u are prescribed them, then u need them, why would u want to "come off" of them. seriously i've had depression and anxiety for 10 years. i'd take the prozac/paxil/ what ever till i felt "better" then stop taking it. eventually the **** "wore off" and i was right back to where i was before i started taking the stuff. why does everyone try to get off meds for deprission? i dont really have an answer for this question, it just made me want to rant for a second, sorry
