Do antidepressants make you gain weight? thanks!?
Question:
Answers:
Not all anti-depressants can do this. But there are a lot that can. If you are having this problem with a particular medication(s) you need to discuss it with your doctor. He or she may lower the dosage or wean you off completely and put you on another one. But from my own experience with anti-depressants and other psych drugs is this. Before you were ever on medications for your depression and what not, were you a chunky person or were you thin? Genetics and family history can make a person predisposed to the weight they are. For example: If your mom was heavy set and your dad was thin, you could have either one of their genes or vica versa. In my case both my parents were heavy set and on both sides of my family they were heavy set as well. So I was predisposed to being heavy. And medications don't help any either.
I hope this was helpful to you. Good luck!

Not that I heard of.
Yes, I was on them for a few years and I gained weight. After I was stable again and taken off, I returned to normal weight Yep.especially Zoloft
Yes unfortunately ,I've taken Prozac for 9 months and I've gained 10 kilos, it retains water in the body and slows the metabolism but sometimes we have to take them to feel better, good luck
Some not all my brother was gaining weight and then he switch meds and is no longer gaining weight ask you doctor.
they can make you gain weight, not by slowing down your metabolism but by making you inclined to eat more. if you monitor any increase in your eating habits you'll be fine. The side effects of different anti-depressants vary from one kind to the other.
While some make you gain weight, others make you loose it. On the other hand, some anti-depressants create neither change in weight.
In order to be more sure about this, look at the side effects label on the prescription bottle and it should better inform you of the side effects and consequences.
Feel happy, smile, be good.
Yes, they sure do. My friend nella has gained over 20 lbs in the last year. She can't seem to take it off either. I think she needs to get off of the Prozac till she loses some weight. She is too dependent on it tho. Depends on which type you are taking. Some can have the tendency to make people gain weight. Talk to the doctor and they should be able to tell you if they affect your weight. I was on one and gained weight from being on it. I switched and than was able to lose the weight.
Some of the older ones do for women.
yes, it is a side effect, but they are coming out with a new anti-d that stops that in the next year or two. Good Luck. Exercise it brings those dopamine levels up.Be happy.
Yes, but that's not important. What's important is getting rid of depression. A whole lot deadlier than a little weight gain. my doctor sadi absolutely, they definately do.
The one exception is Effexor. It affects you neuroepinephrines, which is where your energy levels are in your brai chemicals.but you have to take a large dose, 225 milligrams or more.
YES ALMOST ALL OF THEM DO!! I lost 15 pounds on Lexapro and one of my co-workers gained 60 lbs on Lexapro (same dosage). I gained no weight on Zoloft and my daughter's boyfriend gained alot of weight. Everyone is different..
