Why do some people have more of a conscience than others?

Question:
I find myself constantly going back into my memories and constantly regretting, or loathing things I had done. I don't mean major mistakes I mean the little things that have happened ten or so years ago for example. I say to myself, "Wow, that was dumb of me, why did I do that?" I know I may have learned from those experiences but I can't seem to let them go no matter how much I think about it. I constantly simulate what would have happened if I used other options and I get so lost with it at times that I lose portions of my day trying to figure out why I did something. I have more of a conscience than anyone I know, I live so far into the past that the present feels like it's slipping away at times. The acts I'm talking about are so insignificant with the here and now, that thinking about them isn't going to change anything and I know that, but I keep going back to them anyway, can someone answer this question, and if they know how, can they help me with my "problem".

Answers:
What you are talking about is highly related to anxiety and worrying. You will most likely benefit from talking with a counselor. Free or low cost help is available. Look up your county's social services #s. Look for counseling.

This will not go away unless you seek experienced help. Medication will not help it go away single-handedly either.

Much of this has to do with how you were raised: i.e. your parent's personality styles, parenting techniques, peer group, and biological factors.
you need to get a hobby.
