No, but I will call it Stupid!
Yes, reading does make a person smarter.
yes it focuses the mind in ways that staring blankly at a television cant imitate
It makes you know more, but that is of course not the same as being smarter.
I think so.it helps improve your understanding and of course your reading skills..the better you read and understand the more you are liable to learn.people that CAN'T read are less likely to learn, and are usually better with hands-on crafts, such as woodshop and mechanics
for me, I found that it enhances my vocabulary and helps me to write better. So in that sense, yes. it does.
Yes, based on the fact that intelligence is nurtured by knowledge. The more facts you know, the more asssociations you can make between concepts.
well it keeps the brain active, expands your vocabulary. it definelty doesn't hurt to read! besides, reading is fun!
Depends on what you read.romance novels/educational..car repair manuals/educational..c. for dummies/waste of time..
I believe so. Reason is that you are bound to learn more words when you read more. Hence the saying "The more you read, the more you know." Also it helps keep your brain active.
yes, because you will pick up facts within the stories you read, as well as gain an understanding of the motivations of characters in the books you read, which may help you understand the motivations of people you know. Anytime you use your noggin, you get smarter.
Not neccessarily smarter but reading definately exercises your brain.
Yes, it keeps your mind active and engaged!
Absolutely. It widens your horizons, improves your imagination, language, spelling, reasoning powers, conversation. There are many things about reading that make your smarter and it isn't all about study but learning a wide scope of things.
I know a woman who has only a 6th grade education, she's in her late 70's now, but she's worked for The House of Representatives, the US Senate, etc. Her friends have asked her what college did she attend. I know that the education she received was from reading. Reading opens doors to whole new worlds. She see how other people live, think, dream. You learn VOCABULARY, and comprehension. Because if you are curious, when you approach a word that doesn't make sense to you, you will look it up. I have personally learned a lot from reading and I share that with friends and family when they ask, where did you get that information, I can say, "I read it somewhere". So yes!
i don't know if it necessarily makes you smarter, but it does open up a whole world of experience . It also helps you to retain information that you normally might not have known. If you just happened to have finished reading something and someone asked you a question on that same subject, you would be better able to recall it while it's still fresh in your mind.
i believe it WILL give you a better understanding of the english language, will grow the number of words in your vocabulary, and will help you use and exercise your imagination. let's just put it this way: it CAN'T hurt! and it's MUCH better than watching TV where info and entertainment are spoonfed to you.
Well, it actually depends on the book or any other reading material that you are using. If it is educational, of course you'll be able to gather new ideas and informations which adds to your knowledge. Also, reading widens once vocabulary, thus, making your vocabulary more enriched.

Yes. It builds vocabulary, stimulates the imagination, and exercises the brain. Especially if the reading is on a wide variety of subjects in different genres.

Reading only romance novels (smut), however, has little discernible positive effect.

yeah, it makes the mind more comprehensive, and the vocabulary wider, it also gives more information to the brain. :D
Yes, based on the fact that intelligence is nurtured by knowledge. The more facts you know, the more asssociations you can make between concepts
It's amazing the little things you will pick up by reading. It's true.
Yes, because reading can stimulate the mind. Neuron in the brain fire a signal in the brain cells. That stimulant keep the mind young and sharp.
