Please, see a counselor before you do something you may regret. Depression is serious. You're suffering, and you don't need to be suffering. Counseling helped so, so much; it helped me get over my suicidal period. Please, call a counselor, set up an appointment, STAY SAFE.
If you saw a doctor that you could talk to it would help way more that just taking meds. The meds only mask the problem not cure it. I always believed that people self injury because they have a difficult time expressing how they truly feel. I used to do it myself. I learned to be more assertive. I don't worry how the person will react or will i hurt their feelings or will they get angry. What i learned is people are responsible for there own feelings not me. I am responsible for mine and my feelings needed to come out instead of staying inside and hurting myself. The problem with relaxing, and this is a guess, is because if you relax you might end up thinking or feeling the things that bother you. When you keep busy you don't have to think about it. If i am even remotely accurate drop me an e-mail and i can give you some pointers on what i have learned.
If your doctor won't refer you to a good therapist you'll have to find one on your own. Ask people (friends, family) for referrals. Look in the yellow pages. Medication alone is not going to do the trick. Therapy, in conjunction with meds, will do a much better job. I pray you'll find the right therapist for you. God bless!
