Antidepressants.

Question:
If you saw my other question about OCD then you know what this is about. I talked to the counseling center at my university and they said the only treatment to help with OCD is antidepressants and some SSRI med or something. I'm wondering, do all antidepressants have the sexual side effects? I don't want to go on antidepressants if they have the mood swing and sexual side effects.

Answers:
Not all antidepressants have sexual side effects. I'm not certain off the top of my head what ones they are but I know there are some out there. Talk to your doctor and tell him your concerns, he'll know what best to prescribe to help you with the least bothersome side effects that you are concerned of. Also antidepressants shouldn't cause mood swings, if they do you are on the wrong thing!

Other Answers:
Unfortunately, yes.

I was on effexer and had no sexual side effects, as far as mood swings, I was just too damn calm and unworried about everything, got on my nerves so I went off of it I hear some of the later SSRIs do not have sexual side effects, such as Serzone and Remeron. However, one unwanted side effect many of these drugs, including those two have, is weight gain.

They can, but it is not true for everyone. I am on anti-depressants and I have fewer mood swings, by far, and have noticed no sexual side effects at all. I'm on Zoloft, by the way.

Wellbutrin and Remeron are the only 2 antidepressants in the market currently with no sexual side effects. Lexapro causes them. But remember that the incidence of these side effects is not 100%. No one knows for sure what the incidence is, but it might be close to a 50%, so there is a chance you might not get them.

I have been on anti-depressants for quite a few months now, and although my libido is low when I am on my own, when I get with my boyfriend there is no stopping me!! I think that part of the medication can be rectified if you have the right partner! A pill such as an anti-depressant will always have INITIAL side effects, and they are usually unique to the individual. Yes, at first, you may experience side effects and symptoms. However, I would say after 2-3 weeks your body will adapt to the medication and you should feel and act fairly normal.

ssri selective seratonin reuptake inhibitors, can and do affect your sexual libo at first but when you balance out and things get back to normal your sex drive can and will return.

The newer meds generally do not have as many side effects as the older ones. Believe me I have tried them all.

I dont think that Lexapro does have that side effect but ask your doctor
