Effexor is an antidepressant. It will hopefully improve your mood and lessen depressive or anxiety symptoms.
If you take it, you need to monitor for any suicidal thoughts, as anti-depressants can cause suicidal thoughts in some people, particularly young people.
Don't take effexor if you think you're pregant. Don't drink alcohol while you're taking it as it may intensify the effects of effexor.
It may take about a month for it to start working. Do NOT stop taking it suddenly... you MUST taper off of it slowly or you risk adverse reactions.

ive been taking effexor for the past year and a half. my stabilizing / current dose is 225 mg. i also take 100 mg of trazadone for sleeping. ive been on traz for 10 years - works like a charm, wouldnt trade it for nothing. its non habit forming.
effexor is very good for someone like me, who has severe depression as it has a little energy boosting type effect. i was well tapered from paxil to effexor so i didnt feel any major side effect, thank god. if youve never taken anti depressants before, you may actually feel drunk or high when starting this. it will pass. it may also feel like someone is tightening your brain so you may have some headaches in the beginning. nothing severe and will all pass. i also find anti depressants rob energy from the body; it may be hard to motivate or you may feel tired (kina contrary from what i just said but trust me, its true). i suggest you get a good multi-vitimin, start eating very well and exercise to counter this. recently, i was having breast soreness (im a girl) and the ob/gyn said that shes noticed the same thing in some of her other female clients. i had this for about 2 months and it disappeared as quickly as it came.
make sure you take it with food. ive found it to be a heavier type of drug but one that has been the best for me so far, and for that, im very grateful.
I sweated too much on efexor, but did not notice any libido probs. very important to taper on and taper off this med.
