Cutters..?

Question:

Do cutters (people who self injure themselves with razors etc...) appear normal, happy, or depressed to the outside world?

My Friend who cuts she cuts where no one can see the scars. she does NOT do it for att. she was abused as a young child. and she cuts so she can punish herself. but on some days she seems happy. nothing wrong but at night she gets bad and thats when the trouble starts

I'm 21 now but when I was in my mid teens I was a cutter and a burner. I never told anyone and no one has ever found out. I have horrible scares but the are hidden under clothes. I am much better now and have not done that for about 5 years now. I plan on getting surgery to reduce the visibility of the scars. Its very embarrassing to have them.

From experience of knowing people who do cut themselves seem like very normal and happy individuals. A friend of mine was a cutter and I realized that she was hiding something. I knew that at stressful times in her life she seemed strangely happy, as if she couldn't express her anger or sadness. She ended up telling me she cut herself later on. She suppressed her fellings by cutting on herself. If you know someone like this or if you are that person then I suggest that the person talk to someone close or seek professional help immediately before it gets worse.
