What's the difference between being "eccentric" and mentally ill?

Question: I think the definition of mental illness is too normative to be valid. Maybe people who people call "crazy" are just operating based on own set of norms. What do you think?

Answers:
Eccentric people carry on with their unique individual lives without hurting themselves or others. Mentally ill people carry behavorial traits that call for careful attention and medical treatments; they are prone to hurt themselves or others.

In my view, the eccentrics are people of high intellect and positive creative energy.
