why do people assume that it is always one of the parent's fault if a child is mentally ill?

Question:

Answers:
its not just the mentally ill. people do that to everyone. my son had a heart defect, people tried to blame us. when kids are bad the parents get the blame. when kids are fat parents get the blame. when a kid steals a car someone is going to blame the parents.
people have the need to do that to take the focus off themselves. anything that makes them feel like their life really isnt so pathetic is an excuse to do something even if making the comment is wrong. no one should judge, its not our job. just smile and remember. those who do things like that have to answer to a higher authority eventually.

Other Answers:
I don't assume that! Who says that?
They're morons. It's hard to let that one go, but you can't change the way most people think. I HATE that they think that though..

Now I wanna kick someone's @ss!
Its much easier to point fingers at parents than a DNA strain.
I don't Know. But it really bothers me because my 6 year old son is ADHD and his father and his father's family blame's me. I even had to go to court to get a Judge to order the father to give my son his medication. He only sees him on weekend's so he never saw what was going on or the attention that his son needed from his father. Some time's i wish these people had to go through it their selfs.
