Girl, I am the same way,.i was involved in domestic violence situation where the abuser physically and mentally abuse me.and ever since that i cant seem to get out of depression .i seek ..medical advice , i go to therapist , i seek empowerment groups..i take all this medication and nothing..well, at the same time i just stay home with my 5 year old daughter all the time i don't sleep well. i don't work (my choice) I've gained 10 more pounds and i just feel miserable.so please know that there are other women like you..i don't know how to get rid of depression.but i think is a process we have to do:.is ..stop feeling sorry for ourselfs .snap out of this..increase your esteem,go to work..meet other people.make friends.do something good so we can feel good about ourselfs..ONCE WE DO GOOD, WE FEEL GOOD AND ONCE WE DO GOOD WE ATTRACT GOOD AND FEEL GOOD ABOUT OURSELVES.WISH EACH OTHER GOOD LUCK AND HOPE WE KEEP OUR HEADS UP.GOOD LUCK.

Yoga, Yoga, Yoga. Some positions are especially good for depression such as Paschimottanasana (seated forward bend)
take a yoga class. breathe. move, stretch, dance. This is the ultimate cure for depression. Pills are not the answer. Getting in touch with your body is the answer. www.dancemeditation.org

You aren't alone in that, and it varies for different people. Different things can make you feel that way. Take a step back and look at how you are living. Exercise, it's proven to help depression. Also, eat breakfast every day. Being up and starting the day with a good meal makes all the difference. Personally, I like yogurt and oatmeal with a good cup of coffee. well i do meditation.
but you have to clarify about 'feeling down'.. it could be just normal.

Think about getting married and having kids and having to put up with your spouse and bratty kids. Think about having to come up with a house payment, car payment, payment for home owner insurance, car insurance, health insurance, money for doctor's bills, school lunches, books, day care centers utility bills. Think about working at a dead end job to keep up this life style.

NOW! You feel better?

I've been going through the same things over the years, and im only 18. I tried that whole therapy thing, and medication thing, but I was too stupid and quit both. I hear that St. Johns Wort is a natural way to help depression. I havent tried it though. haha ur depressed i hope you stay that way!

Try getting a hobby or joining a community group that supports something you care about. It also helps tremendously to do do something to help people less fortunate than you like help out at the local food bank or be a tutor or mentor to a younger kid. Honestly, the more you stay active and involved with others, the happier you will be.

u nd to sit down with ur doc and tlk t him abut getting some meds.

depression is a chemical inbalance in your brain you really cant get rid of it. you can take medicine to help it though. I have been on depression medicine for 10 years and im only 18. what has helped me the most was falling in love. i play sports i "try" to cook i will do anything to keep my mind busy. become involved find a hobby or hobbies do something to take you mind off of it. Stay away from drugs because that makes it so much worse. keep a postive outlook on life keep your chin up. you cant escape it but you can learn from it. i have always seemed to try to find things in life that make me happy. you know it could always be worse.

best of luck and love
