What is Bypolar? Is it the same as depression? Please help?

Question:

Answers:
Bipolar Disorder (previously known as manic-depressive disorder) is characterized by highs (mania) and lows (depression). The cycles can last several days or several weeks (rarely cycling within the same day). Its more severe than just mood swings. People with mania have a decreased need for sleep. Its like they are running on an infinite battery. They'll start projects they never finish. They may be arrogant and mean. They may be angry and impulsive (like drinking or going on shopping sprees). Some people become hypersexual. They may talk quickly or just seem very hyperactive. So, when they cycle into the depressive phase, you can understand why its such a crash. People with Bipolar have Major Depressive Episodes. This may include feeling suicidal, being unable to get out of bed, not eating or sleeping, not going to work or school, just seeming run down, or not talking to others.

So, basically, you can have depression without Bipolar, but you can't have Bipolar without depression.

No, bipolar disorder is also called manic depression - people go from states of being extremely sad and depressed (much like regular depression) to moments of "mania" where they are overly happy and energetic, and often don't sleep or eat. There are treatments for Manic Depression, like lithium and therapy. If you think you are bipolar, go see a doctor... you will be ok!
bipolar is also called manic depressive they go threw cycles of highs and lows the highs can be very high like they are on top of the world and then crash into a depression
Bipolar is a new name for an old condition, manic depression. There are three main types of depression, see the links below.
Bipolar formerly called manic depressive is a mental condition manifested by periods of severe depression and periods of hyperactive and antisocial behavior.
Bipolar disorder (previously known as manic depression) is a diagnostic category describing a class of mood disorders in which the person experiences states or episodes of depression and/or mania, hypomania, and/or mixed states. Left untreated, it is a severely disabling psychiatric condition. The difference between bipolar disorder and unipolar disorder (also called major depression) — for the purpose of this introduction — is that bipolar disorder involves "energized" or "activated" mood states in addition to depressed mood states. The duration and intensity of mood states varies widely among people with the illness. Fluctuating from one mood state to another is called "cycling" or having mood swings. Mood swings cause impairment not only in one's mood, but also in one's energy level, sleep pattern, activity level, social rhythms and thinking abilities. Many people become fully disabled — for significant periods of time — and during this time have great difficulty functioning.
I'm no psychiatrist, but Bi-Polar, also known as Manic Depression consists of a person having extreme mood swings. The mood swings being depression and mania. During the mania portion of the mood swing, the person has excessive energy, doesn't sleep, can be hyper, thinks they are invincible, sometimes has delusions of grandeur, takes risky chances and makes irrational decisions etc. During the depressive mode, they exhibit symptoms of depression; sadness, sleeps a lot, sometimes has thoughts of suicide etc.
A person who has bypolar disorder has real high highs and real low low's there is no inbetween for them but they have meds these days to help with that.
Bipolar is a chemical imbalance in the brain. It is somewhat like depression but with bipolar you are more prone to mood swings. The good news is that like with any other medical condition, it is treatable with medication. See your physician so that he can get blood work and do other testings in order to correctly diagnosis you.
Bipolar is a disorder where a person has multiple personalities. For example, one minute they could be be happy and they next they are trying to kill someone. Depression usually they are to depressed to do anything.
Bipolar is a mood disorder in which someone suffers from alternating moods, sometimes the person is in a "manic" state in which they feel really good but are hyperactive, don't sleep, etc, and then they crash and suffer from deep depression. This disorder is also sometimes known as manic depression.
Bipolar is a form of behavioral disorder where the sufferer experiences dramatic mood swings on an irregular basis. One minute you can be happy, the next ready to kill yourself, the next you are angry....Patients are usually prescribed medication to stablize the mood swings but if you think you have it or think you know someone who has it, they should seek help immediatly.
Bipolar is when you fluctuate between being extremely depressed and another mental state called mania, which is characterized by delusions of grandeur, an extreme ego, a feeling you can do anything, insensitivity to others and in some people violent behavior. The person enjoys mania but they are so obnoxious others will insist they get treatment.
bipolar you mean. it is also called manic-depressive syndrome. it consists of manic and depressive episodes. manic is like really happy and... well i cant really explain it well. and you know what depression is. look it up. oh yeah and its not the same as depression, even though about half of the episodes are depressive.
Bipolar is when you have extreme highs and bouts of depression. The reason why it is misdiagnosed is because many people seek medical help while they are depressed, not when they are euphoric.
"Bipolar" is a mental disorder in where an individual vacillates between depression and mania. Often these patient commit suicide as they start to come out of the depression phase. It is also known as Manic-depression.
