Other Answers:
There is no such thing as a nervous breakdown. It is a lay term that has no formal validity. This expression attempts to describe emotional and mental behavior that is not properly understood by the lay community, nor fully understood by the professional community. It is applied against a range of disorders that have certain symptoms in common, many of them co-existing—such as confusion, hallucinations, anxiety, delusions, incoherence, tachycardia, hypoventilation, hyperventilation, disorganized behavior and other mental and behavioral plights.
If you find yourself experiencing symptoms that are suspicious of a nervous breakdown, lie down, start breathing very deeply and keep it going. Whatever is taking place within your psyche, that has you think you might be losing your mind, let it happen—allow it to be in control—and ride it out with deep breathing. Trust your body and your breath. Allow them to work for you.
