Answers:
Ativan is an antianxiety agent also known as Lorazepan and comes in 0.5mg., 1mg., or 2mg. tablets. It has a tranquilizing action on the CNS with no appreciable effect on the respiratory or cardiovascular systems. It is readily absorbed with an absolute bioavailability of 90%. Peak concentration in plasma occurs approximately 2 hours following administration. The mean half-life in human plasma is about 12 hours. This means that approximately one-half of the medication in human plasma is gone after about 12 hours. The plasma levels are proportional to the dose given. This medication is in the Benzodiazepine Family and is given in divided doses for optimal results and according to individual patient response. The dosage of Ativan is gradually increased/decreased to avoid adverse reactions. Good luck to you. This is an excellent medication when used appropriately and in accordance with physician directions.
