how do you deal with lack of sexual desire caused from an antidepressant?

Question:

Answers:
I heard that Cymbalta affects your sex life less than others, but I tried it and it did not work that well for my depression, but it did wonders for my pain in my back and legs and also helped me sleep. I didn't notice any change in sex drive. Which wasn't that great to start with. Now I am taking Wellbutrin XL and I absolutely love it. It is doing great for my depression. Depression will make you not want to do anything to start with. So when you find a antidepressant that will help with your depression, you will feel better in all aspects of your life. I started working out and that helped too. When I say help, I mean in everything, my attitude, my will to live, my sex drive, and etc.

This is a particularly frustrating side effect of antidepressants. Talk about your concerns with the doctor who is managing your prescription. It may help to try a different drug to see if the side effects disappear or are less problematic on another antidepressant. Alternately, it may be helpful to meet with a counselor to discuss different behavioral techniques you could try to increase your desire.

Talk to your Doctor about changing your meds. If you are happy with your meds then talk to your husband and explain to him that you have to ajust. Depending on your age you might be going through menopause. This too can cause a decrease in sex drive. If you want it back then change your meds. If not go with the flow. If your husband wants sex still then give in even if you don't want to. You might feel like it durring the act. I had to change to Wellbutrin, because I had no desire to have sex at all and that can affect your relationship.lol.

The only way is to go on a different medication. Sorry. Every medication has some type of side effect. There are so many out there, you should be able to find one that works in other areas as well as your sexual desire. You just have to take the time to find that one that works for you in every area.
