Can cutting really turn into a TRUE addiction?

Question:
I've been cutting for 7 years, and now I am at the point that I need stitches all the time, and I have even severed tendons. Sometimes I don't even have a real reason to cut, besides I feel I need to. I try to not cut, but I get to the point that I can't function until I give in. Has my cutting turned into an addiction, and if so, what should I do about it?

Answers:
You need to go to rehab, just like any other addict. Addiction is just the way some people deal with life. When they can't handle things that happen to them, they drink, use drugs, stop eating, make themselves throw up, cut themselves, gamble, etc. Anything to get rid of the pain of life. That is what addiction is. A way to make the pain go away. And yet it doesn't work, does it?
Yes.

Since you have been doing it for 7 years now I'd say you are a prime example.
Of course this is an addition now, and I'm afraid you are in serious danger. You must go to a docotor and talk about this problem and hopefully get into a treatment center for this.
