Why do I like to hear noisy vehicles but don't like noisy birds or crickets? And don't get me started on loons

Question:
Just wondering.

Answers:
You were probably raised in a big city. Or maybe you have been living in a big city for a long time. Your brain and ears adapt to your surroundings. You probably hear vehicles more often than birds or crickets. It's the same thing as people who live near train tracks. Ever wonder how they can sleep at night with all that noise? Their brains and ears got used to the sounds.

Other Answers:
The problem isn't the volume or level of noise these sounds are at. the issue is the frequency of the particular sound. Our ears hear differnt frequencies differently. some better, some not so much.
When an older person begins losing their hearing or is already hard of hearing, a common thing that happens is them being able to plainly hear other adults, but not their younger grandchildren or whoever. It's because as our hearing deteriorates the higher frequencies (the grandchildren's voices) begin to go first.
I'm not saying you're losing your hearing, but probably for whatever reason your ears are not hearing those particular frequencies the birds and crickets produce.

Wow, I'm exactly the same way.
