why is it not a good idea to take medication for depression?
Question:
Answers:
I am amazed at the vast amount of horrible information people give on this subject. There have been NO controlled studies that show that exercising is more effective than medication and all the self-help books in the world will only help a small percentage of people. Our bodies may be made to be healthy, but we are susceptible to thousands of other illnesses too..why should depression be different? While diet, exercise and a good attitude are important to a healthy lifestyle they will not cure true clinical depression. Antidepressants are very safe provided you are followed closely by a competent physician. You need to treat depression using all of these approaches..including taking medication when it is indicated.

We are made to be healthy. There have been documented studies that show the following. People coming from treatment for depression were divided into two groups. One did the usual therapy and drug routine. The other were told to run every day, not how long or how much. After months, the report was that those that ran were coping tons better than those on the drugs and with the therapy.
The conclusion is common sense. Eat healthy and reasonbly well, and get some exercise in every day, as simple as walking. You will end up feeling more confident and more in control of your own life. And that is good health.
i went through this experience 2 years ago. those medications work on the chemistry of the brain mainly.however your depression is the same, your problems are not solved, besides your bad feeling that you cannot stand life without them.i stopped them gradually ignoring the dodtor's advise,it might be wrong,BUT,i feel i have a strong self-esteem that i decided to face life as it is with all i can. i also feel proud now, however depression is there,it is surrounding me and you and everyone on earth. be strong, and remember that you are one of millions. it's preferable that you try and help your illness through therapy but, some people need it. side effects can be dealt with if you truly need the meds, the good weighs more than the bad. you decide that for yourself. teens, kids, pregnant women, older people can all take antidepressants and be glad that they do.
most medication have some side affects.i think the main problem with medication for depression is that you can become dependent, addicted to them.
the other major risk with medication for deporession is the risk of overdose, either by accident or not.

it brings in an imbalance to your body, and most of the time you end up having more problems than you started out with.
