Speech disorder problems and Stupidity?

Question:
I'm a14,almost 15 year old girl and i have a speaking disorder. I can't prnounce my "R"s right and for this reason everyone thinks im dumb when im not. They always seem to give me extra help sometimes on things that I dont need help on. I isolate myself from people because of this so they won't hear me talk. I hate meeting new people because i cant really pronunce my name right. My speech problem gets worse when im nervous. I would love to fix this problem ,but i dont think my mom would want to take me to a docter(just wondering how much does it cost to go to a speech therpist?)This problem is too overwleming for me to handle my myself. Any Good advise for my problem?

Answers:
The school has a speech therapist. My daughter has a language disability and takes speech therapy at school. It is free of charge and they are trained professionals that can help you. The school must test and provide this to you under the "no child left behind act". Don't let this bother you. No 2 people are the same. We all talk different, look different and learn different. The people that treat you as if you are of lower intelligence ..well lets just say that is there disability. Stand up for yourself and show them what you know when they try to give you extra help. Show them you are not afraid and how smart you are.
if they tell you that your stupid tell them to go **** you and when you say it you wont have to use the "R"
You should talk to your guidance counselor. They can help you with your insecurities about how you feel about your speech for free, often referring you to an in-school speech therapist as well. (For no fee). In fact, I would be very surprised if they couldn't do the things I mentioned above. Don't be embarassed or ashamed- that's what they're there for! :)
Please do this for you- you sound like you have so much potential waiting to get out! ;)
