Something can be done. As an elder, however old you are, you can show young teens how eating disorders are affecting the lives of young teens. Be a rolemodel and those around you will pick up the pase.
Let's see they're parents could get them help. My old teacher told me a story about his friend who had Bulimia he got help and now he's pretty much recovered. Family members could try to help.
There are alot of support groups out there. True, society keeps putting up this front that we should all be the perfect Barbie Doll type. But there is also more to eating disorders than that. Some people as children, are told that they are fat when they are not, in which, that plants a negative seed in their mind. And the downward spiral begins. People need to give their friends, loved ones & neighbors more positive aspirations & qiut being so critical. Unless the person is getting so large that it becomes unhealthy. too large/too small = life threatening problems. (SJR)
Unfortunately, this problem is not only affecting the youth of today, but also the baby boomer generation. There has been several TV reports of the 40-ish year old who wishes not to age and recapture his or her youth. They feel threatened by their teen-aged children and feel the pull of today's youth oriented society. I have heard it said by one female if one cannot fit into kid size clothing, one is too fat. The fear of "ageing" diseases must figure into this somewhere. I believe that society must teach moderation in everything.
i suffered from an eating disorder for many years and as a young girl in her twenties i didnt think about the health consequences i woul encounter from prolonged starvation and laxative abuse..i now go to high schools to raise awareness by letting people know that althoug you may be happy about the weight loss its only temporrary..most people dont know how horrible the health consequences are.i have kidney and liver damage..my digestive system is completely immobile.my colons nerve endings are gone so i am trying to train my self to have a bowel movement on my own.i dont get hungry and if i do eat i gain weight super fast.and i get very depressed easily.i wish more people like you would raise awareness,,,,good job
