Why does it take so darn long to see a Dr. for medication?

Question:
I moved to a new area so i have to start at a new "clinic" I have multiple mental illnesses. And i have been off my meds for a while because of insurance and moving issues. I have been off my meds for a while and i have a 14 month old baby. It took over 2 weeks to get my original "intake" appt. made and then i waited about 2 1/2 weeks for the appt itself. anyhow. I go tell them everything, and all they say to me is well its going to take about 2 2 1/2 months before u can see the Dr. because it is vacation time. OMG can u imagine? I can just go to this clinic because im on medicare. and a QMB grant. So does anyone know why Drs take so long about this? i need my medication im grasping at straws i know but the only thing i can think of is checking myself into the hospital but i cant with my daughter because i have no one to watch her while im gone. There should be drs that can see people just to despense meds or something.

Answers:
Try and call medicare and see what they can do. Explain to them if you don't get your medications you will end up in the hospital. It's possible they might be able to refer you to someone that can help. I don't think they want to spend the extra money for a hospital stay.

Other Answers:
your primary doctor should be able to write meds until you can see the other doctor or contact the medicare provider and get the names of doctors in the area. whether your on medicaid or medicare. if you look in your yellow pages, you can find doctors and clinics that take it and call them up and one can get you in right away. you also have your local county mental health association that you can contact to see how they can help.

There are crisis centers in every city and state. They will see you on an emergency basis, and treat you until your appointments come through. You could also go to the emergency room of any hospital (they are required to treat you - money or insurance - or not). Tell them how long your appointments are taking (bring papers) - and bring old bottles of your meds with you. Have your old clinics phone number with you, too. Good luck.
