HELP!!!
Hold on.... just off to wash my hands and check all doors and windows are locked................Can prozac help? I took it for depression and info said it helped OCD too!
i talk to myself to "walk my way through it". i tell myself to stop, or that the "coffeepot is off, the door is locked"; otherwise i would never get out the door.
i have problems with the dishes!~ if there is one bubble on them, my brain tells me they are dirty. (i used to get beat for bubbles on the dishes and it is emblazoned on my phsyche (?) that i still will get hit. but i am able (after a long time of self training with affirmations and positive thinking) to eventually get past this and not re~wash them until the bubbles are gone ( i found out that most of the time, the bubbles are , AIR)
This disorder needs medication.
I don't think there is any effective method to control yourself.
Go see a professional.
My ex boyfriend had OCD, he had to check all the windows and doors were locked about 20 times every time we left the flat, we were on our way to cornwall to visit his parents about halfway there when he thought he hadnt locked the door, he had and checked it numerous times as did I, he made us turn back to make sure it was locked, he wouldnt believe me when I said it was locked.
All you can do is take your time getting through it- I made him write a list of everything he checked before going out and tick off what he had checked and it worked- he had the proof in front of him that it was locked.
Hope you find the answer you want as I know how badly OCD can get to you and how low it can make you feel!!
Take care
You really need to see a good counsellor to help you to unpick it. Here are a few tips to mull on until you do.

OCD can stem from many things and shows itself in different ways, but at it's base is often issues of control. When we feel out of control in one area, we sub-conciously compensate in another. For example if we feel someone else was in control of our body, we scrub on the outside. If we cannot get a tidy house, we ensure that something stays clean - often where others can't mess it up again. If we feel disorganised, we count. If we feeel threatened in some way, we check. OCD becomes a problem when we are no longer controlling it, but it is controlling us.

Look at areas where you feel in control, then look at areas where you don't. Does the balance make sense? Where you are not in control, can you do something about it or not?

There is no point worrying about what we cannot control.
