Is there a connection between chronic anemia and chronic depression? Will iron or vitamin B supplements help?

Question:

Answers:
I have chronic anemia but do not suffer from depression. B vitamins will definitely help if you are folate anemic and iron will help if you are iron anemic. I take RX folic acid and B6, B12, and a B complex and am still anemic. None of my doctors have asked me about depression so I don't know if there is a connection. At least for me there isn't. I would definitely talk to your Doc to get a proper diagnosis. Good luck!
If you have chronic anemia you should be under a doctor's care. Only he can tell you how much iron and the type to take. You may need iron injections depending on the type of anemia.

And can low iron make you depressed...absolutely! Low iron contributes to fatigue, sleepiness and overall lack of energy which in some people can lead to depression.

You really need to see a doctor for the treatment that is right for you. And if you know you have chronic anemia, your doctor would have already told you the apropriate treatment.
I am anemic and I get really tired sometimes. I guess there could be a connection for depression w/ the anemia. But that is not the case. I have taken the B-complete to assist in giving me more energy once a month, and the doctor prescribed me ferrous sulfate pills (a form of iron) to help w/ the lack of iron in my body (which I dont take, they make my stomache upset)
