yes, there actually is an addiction...first monitor how long yoou go on during the week and at what times...then start cutting back how long you go on or how many times you're allowed to visit a site...it takes 21 days to form a habit, so once this kicks in, you will focus on things more important in life like your health and family and job...etc..soo good luck my friend!
I mean I'm not like that at all. I doubt many people are like that. But alot of people like myself are addicted to the net.... If I go to like my grandparents house where they don't have a computer and stay for at least two days I will feel like I'm going crazy.
YES!! I'll be on the computer sometimes and look up at the clock and it'll be several hours later and I'll be thinking I've only been on for 30 minutes! I haven't tried to curb it. I just go with it!
yes...I am on here a lot but i don't think i am addicted...but a lot of people are...this is there means of communication and a lot of people are on here cuz its easier to face people on the net then in person.
that may not be jsut addicted to the internet, but addicted to the computer, for any reason .
And yes I think , that this could easly happen , maybe not so much with the internet, but especially playing games on the computer, you get so into the game, that you lose track of what is happening around you.
You are almost living in the game,
I am not like this, however I do know someone who is
This is a new type of addiction. Please know that this is the same as any other illnesses. Some may find comfort in this virtual life with the computer. But to cure this, support from familty and friends are important. Most important is the will to stop. Tryo to take step by step measure to reduce the dependency of the internet. Slowly restrict yourself from using the internet in adjusted time and replace those time with activities that you find interesting, such as outdoor excercise or hanging out with friends. As you progress, make your internet time shorter and your activities longer. With this gradual improvement, you will be able to stop the addiction in no time. All the best.
Cheers,

Yep.
I used to sit on my computer about oh....maybe all night. The only thing I would do is sleep and goto work and talk on the phone with my now husband. Granted, I probably wasn't as bad as some people.
i don't know if it's an addiction...maybe an obsession. There's NO doubt in my mind, I've seen it 1sthand, there are people with an inordinate interest in and utilization of the net such so it's gotten to the point it's negatively affected their lives. I guess anything done to excess can be damaging..even something that, at first blush seems fairly innocuous.
yes one can be addicited to the net.
dont go on it .... try anything but .......... seek counseling even b/c an addiction is an addiction. i used to eb on line 8-16 hrs a day now maybe 2 at the most through out the day its just a matter of finding somethign else to do ....
in my case anyways
good luck !!
yes
In a nutshell, Yes!
The core features of any addiction are tolerance and withdrawal. Tolerance - If you keep spending increasingly longer hours on the internet and are still craving for more, then it is likely that you may have this addiction. Withdrawal - If, when you can't get access to the internet, you start getting restless and fidgety, it is another sign that you are getting addicted.
There comes a time when the addiction starts affecting your functioning. If this happens, its high time to look at a phased, gradual reduction in the number of hours spent on the internet.
u can be addicted 2 just about anything--even people! i have an addictive personality--which means i get addicted 2 something very easily. i was told by a counselor once that i was addicted 2 my husband!--it did make sense---at the time, I'm over that 1 now!!!
if you think you have been spending too much time online, then get a timer for your lights. First, try using it on your desk lamp... set the timer for when you THINK you should be getting off the internet. Then when the light goes off, step away from the computer... shut it down, so its not so tempting. Then go for a walk, read a book, do laundry, make love with your significant other, talk on the phone, do the dishes, mop the floor, pay bills, etc... do ANYTHING except use the computer.
If that doesn't work... then try using the timer to turn off your monitor...
Anyone can become addicted to just about anything... the knowledge that you have an addiction is just the beginning of getting over it... And find a good counselor... Unfortunately, there is no 12-step program to get help with an internet addiction... Just call us IJA... (Internet Junkies Anonymous!) Good luck!
Of course, especially people who have a disability and can't leave their house as much as most of us do. Also, the internet might be their only communication with the outside world. Perhaps they don't have friends/family, so they come here to feel a connection to something. There's no set way to curb it, you just have to be more aware of the time, how long you're online and stuff like that. However, if you are housebound, being on the internet is much better than just sitting alone in the house.
