divert your attention to something else
Do something that requires a lot of thinking. Like Video games, or start answering questions under history or philosphy.
chop off ur head
Say Jesus, pray and ask God to take it away. If you really want it to go away this will work. It has always worked for me.
Think about something else.Do something interesting.Watch TV.
get stoned,unless you already are
Try sleeping and concentrating on your dreams. Try and remember your dreams when you awaken. Think of your childhood if it was happy. Listen to music lyrics.
That's only something that will go with time, as more time progresses, the memory becomes more and more faded.
It may still linger in your mind but it will not be apparent in your mind as it used to be.
I know what you, sometimes certain key events play over and over again in the mind and it drives you nuts, you go to bed and fail to fall asleep soundly without that nagging thought running through the mind like a broken record.
Honestly though, it should get better, if it doesn't, you may need some counselling to let it all out, perhaps you just need to voice your thoughts to someone.
Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.
I believe such things are called 'memes' and are sort of (in language terms) genetically programmed to be easy to remember. e.g., 'happy birthday' song is a sort of meme, and so is the Lord's prayer. My lecturer at University did a tutorial on memes and it was quite interesting. There are quite a few interesting papers on them in journels and books, probably loads on the internet too. hope that helps understand WHY its hard to get things out of your head but I don't think it will help to actually get whatever is annoying you out of your head!
i write it down. once it is out of your head it won't bother you.
Solve the problem. I assume you are talking about some event that happened.. Figure out what exactly bothers you about it and talk to someone about it. It stays in your mind because you dont know how to handle it so all you have to do is figure out how to handle it.
If it is something like a song or catchy tune sticking in your head try listening to one of your favourite songs..
you dont it probably there for a reson guilt maybe ?
give it total permission to be there: let it have the floor - you will be suprised t the result

self: not myself, but self.
Attend to it and resolve how you feel about it. If you write a letter or a journal, saying how you feel, why you feel this way and why you dont want to remember. in order for things to be processed into long term memory they need to have structure. There is a study by James Pennebaker (1988) who got people to write about traumatic experiences, and he compared them to people who did not and found those who wrote, had less intrusive thoughts afterward. the following link takes you to some of Pennebakers articles, some of them are more helpful than otheres.

I tend to assign a positive thought which I use to automatically replace the negative thought whenever it pops up. This has worked for me on occasion.
We've all been in this situation.Put your tv on, listen to music, chat to your family & friends.basically try to keep yourself occupied all the time. I does help talking to people about what ever is bothering you, because then you'll feel like your not going through it alone. It should pass wiith time so don't worry ;-)
Its a form of self punishment, even though what ever you may thinking about may not be your own doing, it's a kind of reminder of how bad things have been or can get. It's ussally when someone has been oppressed/abused in some form. you tend to doubt yourself especially when things are going well. This is when you are more vunreable. if you can rise above this & tell youself tou do deserve positives in your life. I don't think they ever go away & in a a way thats not a bad thing, it lets you know where youve come from which will hopefully set you free. alll the best! Tom.
Visualize your thought as it was not abstract. Visualize it as something solid, like a block of ice. Imagine that block of ice is the thought in your head. Now iaagine is melting and leaving as water thru your the fingers in your hand. Now point at something and shoot the imaginary water. Imagine that in all the water is the thought and you are shhoting out of your fingers like a water gun. Once the water is gone so is the tought. Don t do it too much or you will dehydrate, ha ha.
stick your fav CD on, put the volume high and sing to your hearts content. You'll have your fav song stuck in your head all day instead.
It depends on what you are talking about. If it's a song, sing it out loud.that usually helps me. If it's a movie or a scene of a movie, go watch it. If it's flashbacks of something that happened to you in the past or flashes of a nightmare or a dream..I dont know what to tell ya on that one. I have flashbacks of childhood problems and dont know what to do about it myself.
first thing what,s in your head that you dont want?
go to a physiologist
I walk with a head set that drown everything out for me .
Like a stupid song, and now it's stuck in your head -- that drives me crazy! And everybody will tell you -- oh, meditate, read a book, this, that, but it doesn't work. You just have to replace it with another song. Ideally, you'll replace it with a song that your sorta like, and that's way less annoying.
Eventually, it will go away on its own, and you'll be like, Oh my God! But don't think too much about how it went away on its own, or else it will come back into your brain again. :)
Try visualising (another word for imagining) the problem having no weight attached to it, and blowing away like a helium balloon despairing into the blue sky away from you. Do this exercise for about 5 minutes everytime you think about the matter.
pass it on to someone else, if you ask enough people it will soon go away... do you remember what it was ?
