when will the side effects of 60 mg of adderall daily get better ?

Question:
41 yr old male, 195 lbs taking 60 mg adderall in the morning. The side effects ( upset stomach, clenching of teeth, insomnia, headaches etc. ) are killing me. How long until they get better ? How long ( 3 days so far ) will it take to see POSITIVE EFFECTS ?

Answers:
That is a pretty substantial dose. I am prescribed two 20mg pills, one in the morning, one around 1 p.m. I am a 27yr old male. Are you using the XR? If not, 60mgs immediate is outrageous. I believe the FDA gives the maximum daily dosage as 80mgs. If you are taking the XR, thats equivalent to two 30mg dosages, one immediate, one @ four hours. For the first week I started taking mine, I had the same effects as you. I had goosebumps for the first hour it was kicking in...not unpleasant neccesarily. Would run it by your doc, but for a couple of weeks minimum, you might be best off just taking 30mgs a day and working your way up to 60mgs if needed, but it sounds like you would do well at half your prescribed dose. It took about a month for me to start seeing positive effects with little side effects. Not sure the wearing off gets much better...I still find it difficult to relax when it wears off, although easy to relax on it. I do sleep much better....small bouts of insomnia rarely, often dose dependent. Hope this helps and make sure your heart checks out...stuff is hard on it, especially at the dosages and with the side effects you describe, your blood pressure must be outrageous. Should check it periodically at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, etc. if you are ever at these places. Also, another side effect that takes a while to realize is suppression of appetite. I am a pretty skinny person, but could eat alot...I lost around 20lbs. in a month or so. Vitamins help with nutrition that you end up lacking from not eating as much. Well, thats my story with it....hope it helps. Good luck finding your dosage and you should really contact your doctor soon, or at least have the heart examined.
Adderall is bad. It is known as the "poor person's crack". Gives you the same effects as crystal meth as it is the same family.
