is it really true that it takes your body 3 hours to like rest down before you actually sleep?
Question:
Answers:
No.
And to the answerer above me, you're wrong as well. No offense.
What happens is that you will usually reach stage one sleep within a few minutes of going to bed (although it often seems longer).
Then you will tend to drift through stage one sleep, then to stage two, three and four. Stage 3 and 4 are the 'deepest' phases of sleep, not REM. In stage 3 and stage 4 sleep, your brain waves are slowest and you are hardest to awaken.
After stage 4, you'll tend to drift back up through from 4, to 3 to 2 and then have REM sleep.
Now, REM sleep is also called 'paradoxical sleep' because in some ways, you are very close to being awake. Your eyes move rapidly as they often do when you are awake and in an exciting environment, brain waves also really resemble people who are awake with their eyes open.
However, you are paralysed - this is probably because otherwise you'd flail around and hurt yourself. Research into disabling the paralysis that occurs during REM sleep on cats has shown that when they're in REM sleep, they flop around like fish out of water. Its scary.
When you first go to sleep, you'll often go into stage 3 and 4 sleep quite quickly and the whole cycle from stage 1 to 4 and back to rem generally takes around 90 minutes.
And you start to reap the benefits of sleeping extremely quickly.
Studies on napping have shown that a 10 minute nap alone is really effective in stopping a feeling of sleepiness.
So no, it is not true at all.
Your body is asleep right from the start. this is seen in all physical signs, such as brain waves as well as muscle laxness.
I hope thats enough information
Other Answers:
No. What I heard is that deep sleep ie REM sleep comes after a few hours from the time we go to sleep. That's the time we have dreams. Anyway, you actually sleep and rest when you do fall asleep.
