There are many mental illnesses such as depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, anorexia, narcissism.... Most of these do not end in murder. Not every mental illness is a raging sociopath.

Other Answers:
because they are on medication and receiving support to maintain a normal life. most dont want to kill people
dont you think the ones who kill may very well be mental? Its a definate possibility.
Because not all of us have the desire to end anothers life. Most of the time those of us who do are on really really really good drugs so we won't.

Then there are the really gone of the deep end people who you don't hear about to often because they are smart and very calculated. they kill many people and are never caught or are able to kill in such a way that no one asks them questions or even thinks to look at them.
Because although we are mentally ill,we have the up bring to know it is wrong.I feel alot of the mentally ill are homicidal b/c they can get "by" with it. Most mentally ill persons are well monitored by psychiatrist and psychologist.Medications are prescribed. Also most mentally ill have someone close to them whether it be family or friends that can tell when something is array. Also like in my case i have a community Support Worker who comes to the house once a week to momitor my meds and any problems that have arised.

I personally suffer from Schizo-affective Disorder
Bipolar with psychotic features
Major Depression with psychotic features
Personality Disorder
Anxiety with Agoraphobia
PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder.

I do not have a homicidal bone in my body, and by the diagnosis I have,it would seem appropiate. But I know killing is wrong and so does the ones who kill. They just play the "psychosis" card,to make people feel sorry for them. They know exactly what they are doing.Like Andrea Yates--she did not even mention demons and the devil until the next day, when she knew she could not get out of it.
most of them kill themselves.
