Can a neurolgoist assist in finding out if my fourteen year old son has ADD?
Question:
Answers:
I agree with the first answer. ADD diagnosis is only a relatively new "disorder" The medical profession put a label on what we, years ago called hyperactivity. Some kids who have been diagnosed with ADD can be helped with medication. If the medication does not work, then your child doesnt have ADD. There are no neurological tests to prove or disprove ADD. Its just a name given to a list of behaviours your child will exhibit. Go to your doctor...but I wouldnt be happy just with his diagnosis...get him to refer you to a "specialist" in that area....a psychiatrist perhaps. Dont just accept one diagnosis, find out all you can from different professionals.
ADD is a psychiatric diagnosis, not a neurologic diagnosis. Unless his ADD is believed to be caused by an underlying neurological disorder, I can't imagine there is anything special a Neurologist can do.
