Does Depression cause tiredness?

Question:
I have been diag. with depression. Sometimes I am hyper and the other as low as what can be.
I am getting a good 8 or 9 hours sleep a night but still nod off for a couple of hours in the day. I never used to be like this until a few weeks ago.
Presently I am a bit worried about certain things. Any offers or advice please?

i would reccomend that you go back to your doctor and check to see if you have bi-polar. These poeple generally experince really high highs and low lows. Yes, Depression can bring about a feeling of exachustion all day. However one must realize that there are many things that can be done to help you. First off try filling your day with doing many things, don't focus on your depression, focus on those activiteis at that time. In theroy those things can help you to fell good about yourself, Try doing things that you once loved and if you don't feel like it do it anyway. Once you see small signs of accomplisment you start to feel better i mean that you accomplished a task. Also make sure you have a good support network of freinds. Isolation, make matters worse especially with depression. You don't have to disclose everything to them but try focusing on being a good freind. It will take your mind off of it, plus you will really begin to feel neeeded and wanted. Another good idea is to keep a journal. Try and see your moods as more of a shade of grey rather then black or white thinking, (often referred to as all or nothng thinking) Try new things. Next, keep commitments to yourself. If you have ever told yourself you are goin to do something and then you don't do it, you pretty much feel guilty about it. If this happens to much it can become a pattern and even a personallity. start small with little things and move up. Count getting up out of bed and getting the mail as personal victories. Try praying to, It has helped me, find answers.

One of my friends slept 11 hours a day when she was depressed.

it does Yes. Sometimes you don't even want to get up all day.

ive got a better question, does tiredness cause depression.think about it

therapy helps a lot

This is very normal! Talk to your doc about it, if he/she has you on medication for your depression, they can adjust it so that you won't be so tired. I had the same problem. Yes, depression can really wear on your system, even if you are getting a good night;s sleep (which often you aren't. you are restless, or have bad dreams)

you might also want to check with the doctor who diagnosed you to check for bipolar disorder, which would answer your ups and downs. Talk to your doctor about things you can do to help ease these symptoms - from exercise and eating right, to any prescriptions that might help balance your mood.

one thing for sure, sleeping more than 8 hours only makes things worse. 5-8 hours is the right amount of sleep.
it is not depression that causes tiredness. It is a screwed up internal clock.
i sought help last year and bought a book named "powerful slee". It has a few effective tips on how to get things right - bottom line, it is not about sleeping more, and not about taking drugs.
It is about finding the best sleep pattern for you, and then practice some simple steps to enhance this pattern (and the body clock).
I am willing to offer this ebook to you. Write me at jianqiao@gmail.com

Depression can cause intense fatigue because you are not getting that deep, healing sleep you need even though you are sleeping a lot of hours. You need to see your doctor and get something to help you go into the deep sleep that brings healing to the body and mind. I'm so sorry! I would say YES it does. you know, depression has so many different symptoms such as anxiety, loss of memory, loss or gaining of appetite, impatience, hallucination, over sleeping, fatigue, and finally to commit suicide. If you have some of these other symptoms may be you are depressed, otherwise it's something temporary. I suggest taking a B complex vitamin, and an E vitamin after breakfast.
Good luck

i think it does. i have been feeling tired and exhausted when my depression gets bad. i still sleep quite a bit but then get to work the next day and feel totally exhausted. depression does something to ur brain and makes u worn out First off, I am NOT a doctor.

From what you're describing as 'hyper' and 'low' you may want to return to your doctor and make him/her aware of these. This is a classic symptom of Bi-Polar (formally Manic Depressive) disorder. I know cuz my mom and I both have it.

Take your meds everyday. It can take up to six weeks before you start to see regular results with them. It just takes time for the medication to build up in your system and be constant.

After 3 months, if you're still feeling bad, please go back to your doctor if you can and maybe try a different medication or therapy method.

Also you can try meditation or listening to music. I like the CD at Walmart of rain. :) Or try any other activity that you enjoy, like reading or going for a walk. Staying active can help too, so try to walk or job.

It sounds more like you might be bipolar and not just depressed if you are hyper times as well. But to answer your question from personal experience, yes being clinically depressed (not just feeling blue) can cause extreme exhaustion.

Although sleeping 8 or 9 hours then "nodding" off during the day doesn't seem like depression. During depression it's more like, as stated above, extreme exhaustion and not just nodding off.

Regardless, good luck and make sure you get professional help! Depression or bipolar disorder is not something to try and face alone. yes, i have it. i cld sleep all day if i dint have children. sleep tends to be the only thing that makes u forget about it..
