Panic Attack?

Question:
Today at school my teacher was reviewing a story we were working on and said something related to death. For some reason my heart started to beat fast, I got hot, and thought I was about to die and kept repeating that in my head. So I excused myself to the bathroom and calmed myself down. My questions are: Why do Panic Attacks happen? and How can I make them stop?

Answers:
I had panic attacks alot as a kid, so bad that my mom had to start volunteering at my school because I'd wig out when she was gone. I'm not sure why they happen, but I found that it helps to find something stable to focus on. when you feel a panic attack starting, try focusing on your dog, your bedroom, whatever works for you. pay attention to details of that object in your head. The familiarity of those things always helped me calm down enough to take a deep breath, and move on. I hope this helps you too!
I have suffered with panic attacks for years. They usually happen to me for no apparent reason. The thing you need to do is to keep reminding yourself that you aren't going to die and that the feeling will pass. The trick I used to use to calm myself was to bathe my face with cold water. If you aren't on medication but feel you need it, talk to your doctor. The medication that worked best for me after trying many was Paxil.
