Do I have mental problems?

Question:
I am verrry shy to the point where I avoid going out, hanging out with people, social situations. I always think everyone is better than me and that everyone is thinking bad things about me. Sometimes I get so deprssed I just cry out of no where, get really upset and angry over nothing, and at worst I feel like dying. I am so scared of that 'point' my depression takes me, I can't even sleep I just stay up crying wondering why the hell I'm alive. Then it's over and I'm laughing over everything, joyfull, laughing out of no where, feel jittery, then this turns into fear, fear of everything, things that I can't even tell are real or not!! I could go on about things but PLEASE if anyone knows anything about mental health please help me.

Answers:
Sounds to me like you have Social Phobia / Social Anxiety. A lot of people suffer from this, so you're not alone. You could also be suffering from Depression caused from the underlying SP/SA.

How old are you and how long have you been feeling like this?

The usual approach to dealing with SP/SA is a combination of Immersion Therapy (placing yourself in the very situations you find difficult) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (changing how you view yourself and the world around you).

There is further information on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy here..

Here are a couple of websites you may find useful..

You should contact your doctor or mental health center who should be able to assist you further and may prescribe medication such as antidepressants if required.

There are also a couple of books I would recommend.

Actually, you sound like a typical girl.

I'm not really an expert, but you might be able to control your mood swings through medication. I'd recommend seeing a professional who would be able to point you in the right direction.

TTRRUUSST MMEE!!

I think you should see a physician who specialises in these thing. you might have a syndrome or disorder or something. i think it would be best for you to go and safer. Good Luck! go to the doctor i sounds like you have manic depression or bipolar for this you need a shrink and pills so GO TO THE DOCTOR.

Yes you do have a problem I'm not a psychologist or psychiatrist but it sounds as if you are bipolar, you need to go see a psychiatrist and not psychologist so they can prescribe you the right medication.

have confidence in urself.
Is there something that led u to behaving like this? ask urself, be very honest and most importantly face urself first.
it all that doesnt work, get some help.

I'm no expert, but it sounds like you have some social anxiety problems and/or manic depression. There are plenty of drugs to treat these type of things, you may consider talking with your doctor, or entering into some kind of talk therapy. I've read that talk therapy is just as effective as medication but it does require a little more effort. In the mean time just try to be patient with yourself; your situation can improve with time and the proper treatment. Try doing something you enjoy (movie, bike ride, reading etc) to get your mind off of things for a while. You may want to avoid the news for a while, since it can easily contribute to anxiety. Also try to get some rest. These things happen to everyone at some time or another in their life, so don't worry too much about it, just try to talk to a counselor or your doc. Hope this helps! :-) How old are you? I just want you know that although everyone may not feel like you, it doesnt mean you need to let it bother you to this extreme, you are who you are and can not change that. So love yourself for who you are!! God created us all for a reason, sometimes it just takes some of us longer to find our place in life. You sound like you have a low self-esteem to me, hey you need to stop knocking yourself down so much for only you create the thoughts that run through, take control of yourself.but sometimes checking with a doctor when we are down and out gives us that ump, do whatever would make you feel better..Good luck to you!!

You are manic-depressive, You need serious help.,You need medication and a psychiatrist. Go right away for help.

I don't think that you have a mental problem. I just think that you're very depressed, crying for no reason is a sign of it (and that is not a mental problem). Some depressions have been clinically proved to be caused by some hormonal or chemical imbalance in your body. I think that you need to visit a psychiatric or a psychologist. It may be that there is a reason for your depression and you don't know it and visiting one might help. There is nothing wrong with that. I've visited them more that once in my life and have found them to be a relief: you get to tell to a stranger things that you wouldn't tell anyone, someone that is not going to judge you and who, believe me, has heard EVERYTHING before.

Don't judge yourself for feeling like that. Life is S#%@Y for all of us once in a while. Try to wake up everyday and think of taking it one day at a time. Try saying to yourself: "This will be a good day. Is up to me to make it like that and I can". (When depressed, I hear Natasha Bedingfield's "Unwitten" while dressing up in the morning) If you want someone to talk to once in a while you can contact me: jary_aka@yahoo ; )
