Some people will wear a rubber band around their wrist and every time they are anxious they will pull back on the rubber band. Another stopping technique is to draw a stop sign and to show it to yourself every time you get anxious. Another technique is just to yell stop loud enough to distract yourself from your own thinking. The goal is to decrease the frequency of the anxiety. Eventually overtime there will be less and less interventions.
Medication is another big piece, but only goes so far. Good sleep, regular meals at regular intervals, and exercise are also key.
