People with ADHD and ADD?

Question:
Has anybody had experience of non drug related treatments and remedies? If so, did they work and do you have information?

Answers:
My son has ADHD. his gap is about 5 minutes so it's pretty bad.

I'm assuming you know a little about ADHD? It is caused between the left side and the right side of the brain working at different speeds. Therefore, you could be running and fall over causing a nose bleed. You would be thinking about playing on the swing. You wouldn't notice that you were hurt until you got to the swing and then be confused as to where the blood came from. This is why amphetamines work - rather than slowing the fast side down, they speed the slow side up so that they work closer together.

We controlled my son's ADHD through diet. This was really hard as there was so few things he could eat, fruit being the absolute worse! If he had an orange or something with citric acid in he was totally uncontrollable and always running into things,

We started on a base diet of organic lamb, porridge oats, potatoes, sweetcorn and peas. It took about six days for all the other stuff to come out of his system and we couldn't believe the difference! He was nearly four when we started, and being tested for some serious stuff like central nervous system failure! He couldn't talk, he couldn't focus (either concentration or his eyes). He had no co-ordination. He would run round in circles for hours just shouting gobbledygook. He would run into walls, fall over any curb or step he went near. All this and we had never given him any e numbers! Within 6 days of the new diet he could talk, understand what was being said to him, see, etc. It was like having a normal child (although he was still "busy").

We introduced a new food every three days. We started with foods to make the base foods more interesting. Onions, garlic, tomatoes and spices. Milk (for many this is a no no, but was ok for him.) Start a new food with the organic version. If that's ok, try the non-organic. We then went onto fruits as I was a firm believer that everyone should eat a lot of fruit. DISASTER! We found eventually that he could have 1 banana a week, but any other fruit was awful. We then introduced non organic lamb which was variable. other meats, again starting with organic stuff. Additive free bread (harder than you think) and ingredients for fruit free cakes so he could have puddings.

My son is now 15 and able to control his ADHD without diet (although orange juice and chocolate still have to be reserved for when there is no school the next day). He is doing well and is a delightful person to know.

Also, you should get tested for dyslexia. 60% of people with ADHD and ADD have severe dyslexia.

All the best.

I can get high and be able to sit through a whole movie.
Yeah.... er I think that
Meditation - such as through Yoga or Transcendental Meditation. Probably works best for the milder cases, or as a supplement, but it helps to calm the mind and teaches control over the mind.

Also solo physical activities, such as running cross country, tennis or swimming, where everything is in the mind, the person can still have their ADD thoughts, etc, but continue to perform the activity. This also burns a lot of energy and makes them more tired. They may not learn team work, but they won't be judged for some of the side-effects of their condition.
there is no proof that anything but medication helps the symptoms of add and adhd !
Does this really exist?
I have that ADHD and all my life it has made me fill like a stupid person when it comes to school. My mom tried to help and my school but nothing helps. Now that I'm older I have learned how to some what control it without medicine. But if there is a way I would love to know to!!!
No, I had Concerta but it was useless I do not have ADHD or ADD , it was mistaken. I do know someone and they seemed slightly benefit from it.
keep off e numbers most packets of food and drinks have it written at the back now
For myself I've come up with a combination of things that work great. I drink 1/2 to 1 cup coffee a day. Too much makes me jittery. I take a few salmon oil capsules and one or two 250 mg magnesium tablets. I also talked to a psychologist who has adhd and he said he experienced great improvement simply by relaxing. He said he did badly as an undergraduate but made it into grad school anyway. Since he felt it was pretty hopeless, he just sat back and relaxed instead of tensing up and trying hard like before. Lo and behold, by relaxing, his brain functioned better and he went through grad school with flying colors..
what is it?
