Amish shooting -- grieving for someone I did not know?

Question:
This may sound odd, but I am grieving for the amish kids shot by that #$% nutcase yesterday.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/10/04/amish.shooting/index.html

I don't know anyone involved, but I see Amish every day & Lancaster Co is nearby.

This making me sick. I am sickened to be part of American society. It seems like nobody is safe from this trend of malicious disgruntled ppl -- usually younger white men- on shooting sprees.

Maybe I would feel better if there was a way I could help? But Amish take care of their own and don't take outside contributions.

Does anyone know of a way non-Amish can help these folks?

I feel ashamed to be American when I see this kind of crap done to defensless people.

And will this insanity ever end? There's got to be something really wrong with America to have shootings keep happening. This isn't normal! This didn't happen 50 or 100 years ago. I feel now like nowhere is safe.I also feel like our police are worthless until after the fact

Answers:
It is really a shame what happened in Landcaster, but you are ashamed to be an American because of it? Violence is everywhere in this world... and has been a part of life since human existance... If anything, we should be ashamed of the human race, but where does that get us?
Please don't say you're ashamed to be American. You can be ashamed of immoral people who inflict violence on innocents but that has little to nothing to do with your country.

It's healthy to be saddened by what happened and it's great that you want to help. Don't let this eat you up. Instead keep trying to find a way to make a difference. It's healthier and much more productive.

Take care.
it's natural to feel bad for people when something bad happens to them, and i can understand your frustration in not being able to help, but if they do not want outside help, then trying to find a way to help would be more harm than good. everyone has their own way to heal, and they have chosen theirs... that being said, all countries have their problems, it's just that we get to see ours blasted on the news 24/7.. for every good news story there are 5 that depress or anger you.. why? because that's what sells... so don't think that America is all bad just because that's what is on the news.. hell don't trust the news in general.. it's too one sided... that being said.. the rash of school shootings in the last 10 years has been very tragic and it's about time we start focusing on what in our society is causing this? I'm sure other countries have people who do the equivalent.. but for the most part it seems to not happen in schools, but elsewhere. as for will this ever end... ever hear of the term going postal? there was a reason that phrase was coined... and i can't think of the last time a postal worker went crazy.. so yes, this will pass and be another anomaly of American history.
