Why am I depressed for no apparent reason?

Question:
I recently had hip replacment surgery and now find myself so depressed I don't care about anything. I used to enjoy baiting democrats but even that has lost it's appeal. LOL Sorry, just gallows humor. I just feel that the surgery has changed me for the worse and now I'm stuck. I'm in just as much pain as before the surgery and take as many pain meds as before, so I don't see any benefit. My doctor just says it will take time, but it's been 7 months and I see no improvement. I guess there is an apparent reason for my depression but it just pisses me off that there is nothing I can do about it. I'm sure the pain meds are a contributing factor, but without them, I can't function. But I can't seem to function with them either. Sure seems like someones idea for a bad joke. Any ideas, I'm open to any and all suggestions short of witchcraft.

Answers:
I'd speak with your provider. It's possible that you're suffering from depression, which may be the result of your medication or a chemical change.

Depression is manageable, so speak with your doctor right away. It may take some time for you to feel "back to normal," but it will be worth it.
Get a second opinion and a third if necessary.
