Can hypnotherapy help raise self esteem and confidence?

Question:
I've been depressed, and it's taking a while to get my confidence back. Has anyone had any experience of this type of therapy and does it work?

Answers:
Hypnotherapy alone may fail to help, but combine it with other therapeutic modalities, such as self awareness groups, and seeking the support of others [not necessarily professional, but others who care].

Life has its risks and you can only build self esteem by taking risks. We look at others, and society in general as if we were looking in a mirror. We present ourselves, sometimes in imitation of those we find attractive and experience feelings of rejection when we are not accepted by others.

Self esteem risks are ones we take by presenting ourselves in an honest way, and being accepted for who we are. Presenting ourselves as someone other than our real selves will not work as we know that we are really not the person we are pretending to be and even when we are accepted, that acceptance is empty as we are not being accepted for ourselves.

Simply present yourself honestly, let people know you are someone who can care and even love others, we then are filling the real and honest needs of others and we in turn will be accepted, and gain self esteem.

When our self honesty is accepted confidence will follow.

hypnotherapy and guided imagery can allow us to practice being real, and therefore assist us in gaining the courage to take the risk.

Other Answers:
yes, it works well, I used it in clinical settings many years ago.

Hypnotherapy can be useful to give your mind a break from the negative. It doesn't work for all people though. I don't have personal experience with it, but I have worked with many people who have tried it. Some have said it helped them get over social anxieties, others have used it for depression or to quit smoking. Other people I have talked to say it didn't help them at all. It's a very individual thing, but if you have tried other therapies and/or medications for depression and they haven't worked, you may want to try hypnotherapy.
