I have a horrible memory, I mean horrible, what could be the cause?

Question:
I find myself, rather. Unfocused and lost most of the time. I do have a family history of Alzheimer’s but I am only 22, could that occur so early? If anything, I have been having this problem from as far back as I can remember. haha. Which I mean, I find it hard to keep on track of anything needing my attention. Someone suggested I may have ADD or something along those lines but I have never acted out in the manner of kids who I know have that problem. So, I am a tad confused on what could be the cause.

Answers:
Insufficient amounts of sleep and water can cause you to feel completely unfocused. Make sure you are drinking 64 oz of water a day and getting at least 7 hours of sleep a night.

Do you smoke pot?

my son is ADHD and he has all the symptons except bad behavior.so don't rule that out. Talk to your doctor. It may not be Alzheimers, and it won't hurt to ask. Doctors are there to help.

I have the same problem,Like I will be driving down the road on bad days and I will forget where I'm going for a split second.I'm 25.I hate it.I have to write everything down when I think of something before bed just to remember in the morning.

You actually COULD have adult ADD. I am a 37 year old woman who was just diagnosed. Like you, I felt "unfocused" and "lost" most of my life. Women present symptoms differently than men or boys do. We are rarely hyperactive. While boys are diagnosed 3:1 over girls, new studies have shown that it is really 50-50 but women go undiagnosed because doctors don't understand the differences. Find an ADD expert in your area. That's what I did. My medication lifted the fog that's been over me my entire life.

I have an M.A. in Psychology. I was recently diagnosed with ADD-Inattentive Type.

I have a terrible memory also! Isn't is great! This is what keeps my marriage working and my kids from ever facing a punishment, they do something bad or make me upset and I forget about it the next day. You are probably easy going too right? It could be ADD, I have often thought that I would have been diagnosed with that also had I remembered to ask the doctors about that when I was in for some other sickness. If it worries you terribly, write it down on a post it note and stick it to your mirror and call the doctor in the morning and set up an evaluation. My grandma had alzheimers also..it is sad. I think WE (family of an alzheimers patient) just fear it horribly. My grandma didn't start showing symptoms until her early 60's and the test is comical when you are okay. When you are facing alzheimers it is very frustrating. At least my grandma was unaware of this terrible disease and lived her first 60 some years feeling carefree! Good Luck
