Suicide and anti-depressants?

Question:
I am taking Lexapro, this is my first time on an anti-depressant. Some people are telling me it will kick in in a few weeks and I will feel better, but I have had more and more people tell me that drugs like Lexapro can make you suicidal. A friend of mine was perscribed an anti-depressant and tried to kill herself. I have noticed that I've been crying more since I started taking it. Anyone else have a negative reaction to these meds?

Answers:
Not all anti depressants work for all people. This is why your Dr. or health care provider monitors your progress. Give the meds time to work and if your not feeling better your Dr. may put you on something else. If you start to have suicidal thoughts contact someone ASAP.

i take zoloft and welbutrin 300mg of medication per day in the begining i did feel that way but now i feel so much bettern....dont be alone at any time if you feel that way and call 911 or your doctor thatz very serious....but plzzz dont do it :(
I also take Lexapro. I have suicidal thought sometimes, but don't give in to those. It's the depression talking. The meds will help you, but not as much as you learning to cope with life.
YOU have to make yourself happy. No pill will do that. It helped me much more to be active and start working out. Try that.
Good luck to you.
A lot of anitdepressants can cause adverse effects, such as thoughts of suicide depending on your age. Being the posterchild for antidepressants, I thought Lexapro sucked. Gave me headaches and made me feel worse as well. My best advice would be to talk to your doctor.
well I took lexapro n it worked, but then I felt bad again so I talked to my dcotor n he just told me to take a bigger portion n it work!
