I would suggest daily multi-vitamins and turning off distractive things. Dare I say it: TV, internet, video games. Maybe throw on some soothing music and read or do what you need to get done. Hope it helped.
PS I hate meds too. Don't feel bad.
These days our head is overloaded with information's like never before just relax slow down ur pace , have some almonds <thats what my mom gave me during exams>.
That's normal for everyone. Your brain is like a filing cab nit the information is there but if your not going to use it then it is stored away. What you need to do is use cues to help you retain the information such as a color, a little saying, rhyme. You don't need medication.

Do some memory exercises, like memorizing definitions. Your brain is like a muscle-if you use it, it gets stronger, but, if you don't, it might not be there when you need it.
