I have a problem being edgy, but how do i stop this, any good medications for this?

Question:
Hello, I have had numerous people tell me that I seem edgy at times, and that it makes them nervous. I've also noticed this with myself, but I still cannot overcome the problem. It will just happen randomly, everything will be going well in a conversation.. then I will suddenly just feel really uncomfortable for a second or two and then it stops. Is there anyway to fix this, or medications for this behavior? I feel like i'm constantly on the look out or getting ready to protect myself from verbal attacks.

oh, i suddenly felt edgy again before i posted this. ok its gone..

Answers:
It sounds like you are experiencing anxiety. There are numerous medications for this problem, but they end up making everything worse, as they are very addictive. I suffer with anxiety, also. Better than medication is yoga, biofeedback or just a hot bath where you can unwind. Seeing a therapist is often very helpful to talk about how you feel and get help with biofeedback, for example. You are not crazy. Anxiety is a very common problem among young women, for one. I suggest that you look in your local yellow pages under mental health and pick someone to give a try. If money is a problem most professionals charge on a sliding fee schedule so that everyone who wants their service can get it. You can also check the outpatient department at a local hospital. Good luck to you.

Forget the medication, meds are not always the answer. Sounds like all you need is a good relaxation technique. Ever considered meditation?
I have anxiety, and take xanax. It is the only thing that works for me, I only take it though when I have a real bad anxiety attack though because it is addictive!!
