most likely just stress. i do it too. I even chew on my lip when i am really stressed.

You can be a compulsive anything. That is if you are compelled to do it more then the normal person would.
There is a difference between a compulsion and a habit. If you feel a strong need to chew on things and it is difficult to control then yes it is possible. However, if you just find yourself doing it and can stop with ease after becoming aware of what you are doing, I would say it is only a habit. I chew on pen caps etc. myself but I do it without even realizing I am and can stop with no prob. I am also OCD my compulsions are totally different.
