Why are so many people queing up for prozak?
Question:
Answers:
I am a suffer of depression, though I take Lexapro and not Prozac, though that may change in the near future. I am not too lazy to go to work and I work through my depression, both at home and work. Some days are harder than others.
Though i am not disputing that some people do you such conditions to their advantage to collect disability, I think you are being a tad unfair with the way you phrased you question. A more tactful way to ask may have been along the lines of "Do you think people use their depression more now a days to collect disability benefits and not have to work?"
I would like to suggest one reason why depression has become more prevelant as a disability issue. I believe it is because the science has gotten much better and depression is much better understood. Years ago, people were prescribed meds like Valium (spelling is wrong probably) to help with many of the same symptoms seen in depression. Now, we better understand the disease, so it is easier to diagnose, therefore diagnosed more often.
I have absolutely no problem with people asking these types of questions. I just feel that if you are going to ask a question like this to get some answers and people thinking, you should be respectful toward those that are truly suffering from what you are discussing.
Peace

yeah pretty much.
it's not that hard to convince a doc you're depressed. it's actually the "in" thing to do these day. has been since prozac got popular.
docs are actually happy when you got depression cuz that's one thing they now know how to cure quick and easy without much work on their part.
you don't even have to look in the DSM-IV (which is what shrinks use to diagnose). just look in any glossy magazine and find out the symptoms. tell a shrink you got it. next claim you can't work because of it. it's easy street. kind of like maybe when you were a kid you could convince your mom you were sick and stay home from school. only these days, adults can do it too, from work, thanks to depression.
It's an effective way of dulling the senses so that they can accept the make-believe world that the media and government are pushing. America has turned into a fake society.
It's one of the reasons that a whole lot of people support the Bush regime. They are not in their right minds, they are medicated.
If America was as sober as it used to be Bush would not have been elected and they will not have to rationalize and fabricate reasons to justify the Iraqi attack and occupation.
Then they will not need a drug to cope with the emptiness within themselves.
your question is very offensive, for geniune sufferers it may be a last resort
first, it's "prozac" with a "c".
and second, it has NOTHING to with laziness.
there is a history of depression in my family and I have been hospitalized for mine many times. I'm on prozac right now, and it helps the chemical imbalance.
YES, depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain.
this question is extremely offensive to myself and to others who are true sufferers of the disease.
I was prescribed prozac a few years ago, which scared the life out of me to think the doctor thought I was that depressed that I needed something so strong! (Yes I was still in denial at this point lol) I'd also heard that it was an addictive drug which also scared me! A friend of mine told me to take St John's Wart instead, which is a herbal equivalent......and it worked for me!
I am currently suffering some sort of depression for the firrst time in my life(im in my 30's),I get panic attacks and struggle with stressfull situations on top of the low feelings.
I have also been advised to take St Johns Wort, how long does it take to work?I have noticed an improvement after 3 weeks but not a total cure yet,any one help?
