I am bipolar, do people ever really get happy and live normal lives?

Question:
I have been this was for about 5 years and wonder even with treatment, do people ever really get happy and stay normal?

Answers:
I am also bipolar. I was first diagnosed with it in the mid to late 90s. I didn't begin treatment until about 6 months ago. I don't know how "normal" you'd say I am but I'm happier and a whole lot easier to get along with since I began treatment. Also things don't stay with me as long, you know the racing thought thing. I sleep better. I'm a lot more relaxed in all situations. It's good for me now.

They can with proper treatment such as medication and counseling. Never give up.
I'm bipolar too apparently,, i used to take paxil and i got cheerleader happy. then i stopped and everything seems fine. i think bipolar is just an excuse for being moody and depressed.
Sometimes Yes My Sister is Bi-Polar she has her moments but is basically a Happy Person
YES! It takes time to find the right meds..and then statistically many bipolars do not take them as directed.

To stay happy and lead a normal life---take your meds! Every day and NEVER skip. Work with your doctor and those who love you.

And for the bimbo above, bipolar is NOT an excuse for anything---it is a clinical diagnosis and paxil is not usually a treatment for it!
Normal isn't always happy.
I understand where you're coming from. I was diagnosed with Bipolar (II) Disorder in 2001. I used to feel as if my world turned to sh!t. For the first 3 years of my diagnosis, I was running wild- not taking my meds, self medicating in the forms of marijuana and alcohol, and not taking my therapist seriously.
YES! There is hope of leading a normal, healthy life. It's just what you make of it. Make sure that you're going to your therapy sessions and taking your meds. There's alot of alternative in hollistic medicine as well. Educate yourself on gaining personal freedom & inner peace. I suggest reading The Four Agreements by don Miguel Ruiz along with other life affirming books. There are various Bipolar chatrooms too. They help alot- knowing you're not alone. check out http://bipolar.about.com Pray everyday to your higher power and things will get better. It may take awhile, but in the end it's well worth it. ♥

Peace & Blessings
I have been diagnosed as bipolar. I am the happiest person I know but I am also the saddest. You can't taste the sweet without tasting the bitter. Don't ever give up. I think that bi-polar people are some of the most amazing people but it can be a blessing and a curse.

I am bi-polar as well, and yes it gets better with treatment hun. Nothing a little drugs won't take care of, ya know?
I have a friend who is bipolar and getting on the right medication was the first big step. Even getting correctly diagnosed was extremely hard. Consider yourself lucky and this the beginning of a new life.

As far as my buddy being 'Normal,' or happy, he certainly is (aside from some physical health issues.)

Good luck to you, and don't take your meds for granted. Barring new developments you will always need them.
Not even "normal" people are always happy. But I am bipolar and struggle to be happy. I suspect that you will have the typical ups and downs that comes with manic depression, but medication can help you from going to the extremes in moods that are likely without meds.

Just aim for contented. That to me is happiness.
dream
i am bi polar and been on and off meds, true happiness is finding something you love to do,mine happens to be landscaping, and surround urself with possitive people, what is normal anyways, is there anyone that is truly normal ,we all have faults and i don't judge others for theres, just be true to your self, and pray for strength and wisdom, God made us this way for a reason.
meds do help balance the highs and lows, but there is no magic pill to cure bi-polar, takes alot of work with yourself and your theropist, good luck :)
yes you can control the symptons with the new medicens but when you start them dont give up you will get releif
