How can I keep my anxiety level down?

Question:

Answers:
The answer to this question is really quite complex. From someone who has suffered from anxiety, it can be challenging. First off, if you are not on medication and feel you don't need it, DONT TAKE IT. Medication for anxiety (xanax, ativan, prozac) can be very effective and helpful, but if you dont need it, dont take it just because they can be very difficult to stop taking. Second, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has shown to be just as effective as medication in controlling anxiety. You could try seeing a psychologist, or trying some self help programs. The Midwest Center for Anxiety and Depression has an excellent, proven, home method for helping people with anxiety. It involves using weekley tapes, relaxation methods, and a workbook. Most of all, don't give up and realize you are like MILLIONS of other people in the world. Good luck.

one word Xanax!
I'm not a perv but masturbate more.
I have found meditation helps with my anxiety. I have also been put on Lexapro to help control my anxiety and I go to a counselor who has helped me learn how to cope with my anxiety.
cut out ALL caffeine..get a good amount of sleep..start looking at your situations & ask yourself what is here that makes me feel unsafe? that is a good start to identifying your triggers & then slowly start to deal with why you're feeling unsafe. hope this helps ;) GL*
Try to make sure you're taking good care of yourself and eating well and getting enough sleep. Also some quiet time scheduled into your day.

Also I have read this book called "Get out of your mind and into your life" which a counselor suggested and it was very helpful. It helps you to not focus on your thoughts so much. Sometimes we let our thoughts get out of control and before we know it one small problem spirals into a huge life drama in our heads. I'll warn you, the book gets a little "out there" in some places, but I just took what helped me and ignored the rest.

When I start having a panic attack now instead of freaking out about it I tell myself "wow, I'm pretty stressed right now, I need to slow down a bit and relax and let it pass" instead of what I used to do which was more along the lines of "oh my God, I'm freaking out. . . I think I'm going crazy!" I remind myself that anxiety won't kill me, it's just unpleasant, and it passes sooner.

Also watch your diet. Too much sugar or caffeine can really do numbers on anxiety. I had to cut out all caffeine and I limit my sugar because big fluxuations in blood sugar can contribute to anxiety in a lot of people. Also, some other medications can as well. I was prescribed Allegra for allergies yesterday and had a really hard time all last night and today with anxiety. So I know that I need to find something else or deal with the sniffles.
ashtanga yoga
smoke pot.
See a psychiatrist and see what he/she suggests. There are medications for severe anxiety.
Also, try eating foods or drinks that calm you like green tea for example. Stay away from caffeinated foods/drink.
I saw an answer above mention Xanax. Wrong. It is addictive and you will need to continue your dosage as you take it. I take Klonopin (generic Clonazepam) twice a day and I'm as smooth as a lake at dusk when the sun's gone down and the wind has died away. And I had a serious anxiety condition. Stay away from Xanax - it has some horrendous side effects that I've heard about through my brother who is a lawer and who has represented people who had the digestive system virtually freeze up due to too much Xanax.
