trazadone causes you to fall asleep and stay asleep for awhile. I wouldn't recommend taking it if you are having to get up early in the morning and having to drive or do anything else to that nature.

I take Trazadone at bedtime to help me sleep. It comes in 50, 75, 100, 150 & 200mgs. I take 150 mgs. but I've worked up to that dosage over the years. I have fibromyalgia and I've got permanent nerve damage in my lower spine from a ruptured disc because of degenerative arthritis so i'm in a great deal of pain. My point is that it's a must to get a good nights sleep because this is when our body heals itself. You are aware of the different levels of dream stages, stage 1, 2, & 3 which is called rem sleep or real deep sleep. This is when our body starts to heal internally as well as healing our brain. You should wake up feeling refreshed and not all dragged out. I hope this helps you. Also, some doctors give it to patients for depression.

trazadone is an old-school antidepressant. it has a sedative effect and is often prescribed for insomnia or migrane therapy (although not often for migrane therapy as there are newer antidepressants that have fewer side effects and are more effective). if taken at levels that are theraputic for depression, and perhaps for migrane, it may leave you with a somewhat "flattened affect," which means that you won't get quite as happy, or quite as sad. it's almost like an emotional lethargy.

Xanax is prescribed for severe anxiety attacks or panic attacks. it is not a long term therapy for depression or other illnesses like migranes. it is specific for anxiety related illnesses. it, too, has a sedating effect. it is a benny (benzodiazapine), like valium, etc. according to the manufacturer's web site, you shouldn't take it with other cns depressants, like alcohol, or other meds that will make you drowsy. it is highly addictive at very small dose levels.

neither one are drugs to abuse. they aren't a "fun" trip.
