I FORGOT what I was going to say to answer your question..
Oh well.
Not a memory malfunction, just a natural human reaction to their surroundings. There's certainly nothing wrong with your brain. memory malfunction.no.think of it as a desk which you work on..everything you want to remember you write down..now if you take your time to write it down well aka you try to memorize it or it is something important and life changing..then you will remember it and place it in a safe spot..but if it is something like ohhh yeah this..and that..then you go off and think about something else.you don't prioritize that question.it gets put on the back burner.or the edge of the desk.add a couple more unimportant thoughts and it's either covered up so u can't find it or knocked completely off..So if it held more importance..or you somehow related the question to something in your life that is important.it would be more likely that you will be able to recall that question later in the day..so next time.just say it over a couple of times while looking at a stop sign.you will put the two together..then all you have to do is remember "stop sign"
This sort of thing happens to me all the time, and I hate it! It's just the way the brain works, I suppose. Other matters become more urgent and pressing at that moment and push aside the other "trivial" ideas. Usually you can eventually remember a lot of the smaller things like this.
I love to write, and suffer from this often with story ideas, plot twists, dialogue, etc. I just plain forget a lot of it after I've been driving around and thought it up - by the time I get to the computer to transfer it to paper, it's gone or just not the same. Thankfully, I've found the really good and most important stuff sticks around regardless. That's how I know if a scene, or plot, or line is going to work in a story - depending on if I remember it after I get out of the car.
