How to deal with irrational fear?
Question:
Answers:
I am no psychologist or physician, but recognizing that this is an irrational fear is the first step to recovery. If you can afford counseling, there are many in the area that you can arrange to talk with and get help. You can also get yourself some books to read upon these kinds of fears and what you can do to help avoid them. (the best and only way I know is to sit quietly in the midst of one and breath deeply and quietly speak positive words to yourself about the storm - and that you have no fear of it. You can reverse your fear (FEAR: FALSE EVIDENCE APPEARING REAL) realizing that it's a spirit and that you have not been given that fear - but you have power, love and a sound mind.

Nothing to be ashamed of. Everybody has a fear of something. I hate spiders and have a fear of heights. Everybody gets over them in some way or another.
try taking some time to study the phenomenon and learn about how and why it happens. If you have a better understanding of it, you might get over your fear.
Just my opinion, see if it works.
I have this also. i hate them. when a thunderstorm comes I hold onto my Baby Daughter and Just hold her. before she was Born I held onto a stuffed animal. it helps really. Just try and stay calm. i know easy for you to say Susan lol. maybe talk to your dr. Good Luck. I am the EXACT same way and I'm 22.
When storms are in the forcast, I do something possitive to change my thoughts.
One thing I find works is to listen to my MP3 player and sit on my front porch and enjoy the cool air and the smell of rain.
face it.easy to say, not so easy to do. Try to figure out why you are you afraid of a sound? Try writing about your fears, then read it a few days later..you might even giggle.
