what causes bi-polar besides heredity?

Question:

Answers:
The symptoms of Bi-polar Disorder is a problem with the chemical regulating system in the brain. The different brain chemicals are supposed to stay at each ones proper level. In Bi-polar disorder some of the chemicals are at too high a level at times, and at other times, some are too low.

Apparently, the cause of this problem is a genetic defect, pure and simple. Often, it seems to run in families and in those cases
the reason for the genetic problem is that it is inherited. There are other people who get Bi-polar Disorder and they have no family history of it. No one knows why these people have this genetic disorder.

I hope this has been helpful.

Of all the mood disorders classic bipolar I manic-depressive illness has the strongest genetic links. It is less clear how much heredity plays a role in subtypes of bipolar disorder and recurrent major depressive disorder. Stress and drugs definitely can trigger episodes in susceptible individuals.
