What's the difference between Bi-Polar and Manic Depressive?
Question:
Answers:
Manic Depressive is the old, outdated term for Bipolar Disorder. As long as a sufferer faithfully stays on his/her meds and checks in with the doc anytime things start getting a bit twisted, they're not all that hard to live with. But then, I've got forty-plus years professional training and experience workin' with 'em. Others may feel differenly.
Other Answers:
They are the same disorder. Manic Depression is an older term for Bi-Polar.
Same thing. Bi-polar is the newer term. They are the same thing- they changed the terminology. Just semantics.
I don't know why they changed the terms.. I still use manic-depressive because that makes more sense to me then bipolar. Bipolar sounds like something related to the electrical system in my car or something.
It was probably meant to lessen the stigma- change the words and maybe people will forget the stigma applied to the other words.. They'll change it again in another ten years or so.
